Youth Programs
Vesterdalen lodge has several opportunities for young people.
First is our Heritage Camp Scholarships. There are summer youth camps in the northwest that focus on Norwegian heritage... and our lodge provides substantial scholarships so that children and grandchildren of members can take advantage of them. Children 9-15 can learn Norwegian language, customs and skills at these camps. Learn more by clicking here.
Second is our Adopt-a-School project. The school selected in Shadow Lake Elementary School in Renton (part of the Tahoma School District). Volunteer Jean Coy from our lodge coordinates our work to support this school, and every year we do a heritage program, showcasing Norwegian heritage to all students. Fun!
We also have several programs each year that kids will find fun - for example, the Cultural Night program. We have a number of booth staffed by members that demonstrate Norwegian crafts and (most important for kids) food! They can try lefse (made right on the spot), waffler, rømmegrøt, frukt søppe and many more treats.
